Is your tree care provider using spikes to climb while pruning? Ouch!
Climbing spikes are sharpened steel spikes attached to the climber's leg by leather straps and padded supports. These spikes are traumatizing to a living tree and create unnecessary damage, according to the Tree Care Industry Association.
Each puncture produces a certain amount of tree tissue death around it, varying from tree to tree. In most cases isolated wounds will seal, but over time, groupings of spike holes can cause the entire area on the trunk to die.
The likelihood of piercing the cambium (living tissue beneath the bark) is high, even with larger trees and thick bark. If soon after the work is performed with spikes there is sap oozing, the tree is responding to damage. Repeated damage of this type is harmful to the tree.

• Pretty in paint. Rusty metal, chipped paint, colors from another decade - they are common sights for the garage sale shopper. But when you look beyond these imperfections - and at their spray paint potential - you'll soon find some diamonds in the rough.
Metal products, such as tables, chairs, garden tools or even watering cans, can receive an easy and instant update spray paint.
• New uses for old things. The key to finding items at garage sales is to look at how they can be used in new and different ways. Don't view that dusty, broken typewriter or vintage camera as mechanical pieces you have to fix, but rather as interesting design elements to be admired on bookshelves and mantels.

Summer is busiest time of the year for home and business moves. In fact, an estimated 65 percent of the 43 million Americans who are moving this year will do so in the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
What does that mean for those with a move in the immediate future? Considering the fact that moving is ranked just behind death and divorce in terms of life's most stressful events, a summer move might mean stocking up on extra stress balls and taking a few extra deep breaths along the way.
"Whether you are hiring help or doing it yourself, you can expect a fair amount of anxiety," says Sean E. Burns, a psychologist with Counseling Associates of West Michigan. "It's helpful to simply recognize that it's normal that your life is out of order during this period. Once moved, it's important to resume life's routines as soon as possible. Don't worry about getting everything in place right away; put a priority on resuming your workouts and family trips to the park, and the rest will take care of itself over time."
